Case Statement

The Proposal

We have a dream whose time has come. Alternative medical facilities are growing as people discover better health in a way that is safer, more affordable and curative of chronic disease.   Our dream is to build an alternative medical school in Phoenix producing more practitioners to help even greater numbers of people reach good health and maintain it.

The American Medical College of Homeopathy (AMCH) envisions a new four year, full time medical school entitled the American Medical College of Homeopathy.  This represents an expansion of educational services from our current part time school. The graduates of this new program will be licensed to practice homeopathic medicine through the Arizona Homeopathic Licensing Board and will practice as homeopathic doctors.  This program hopes to attract students from all over North American who wish seriously study homeopathic medicine.

In addition to the establishment of a full time medical school, the new campus will also house the following entities:

  • American Museum of Homeopathy

  • Free or Reduced Income Clinics

  • Homeopathic Public Information Center

  • Homeopathic Public Library

  • Homeopathic Research Center

  • Regional Pharmacy and Bookstore

We see this program as a critical next step in the growth of homeopathic medicine and the practice of alternative medicine in the United States.

Who We Are

The American Medical College of Homeopathy is a non profit Arizona corporation that promotes quality education and research in homeopathic medicine.  It currently runs a state licensed school with provisional accreditation through the Council on Homeopathic Education. It is the only provisionally accredited comprehensive homeopathic training program in the United States.  Its first class started in February of 2000 with 20 students.  Since that time it has graduated two classes and has two current presently  in training.  Its current program is 900 hours and spans three years with 300 hours of clinical training.  Graduates from the program are eligible to practice homeopathy as an MD(H)(homeopathic physician), ND(naturopathic doctor), NP(nurse practitioner), HMA(homeopathic medical assistant) or NMA(Naturopathic Medical Assistant). It also offers distance learning programs which students attend throughout North America.

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine that is holistic, scientifically based, safe to use, inexpensive and curative of chronic disease.  It was founded by Samuel Hahnemann over 200 years ago, although the principles on which it is based have been utilized in healing for 1000’s of years. Homeopathic remedies work through activating the body’s own powers of self regulation and self-healing.  Since its inception, homeopathy has benefitted people from all walks of life and of any age, in countries all over the world.

Homeopathy is the third most common form of alternative medicine in the world today (behind herbal medicine and oriental medicine) and is the fastest growing of all forms of alternative medicine.  In the United States, homeopathic medicines are regulated by the FDA.  Here in Arizona, the practice of homeopathy is regulated by the Arizona Homeopathic Licensing Board, Arizona Nursing Board and the Arizona Naturopathic Licensing Board.

The Need

The public is seeking methods of healing that are safer and less expensive than conventional medicine.  Homeopathy also has the capacity to get to the root cause of illness and effect cure, rather than simply managing chronic symptoms over time.

There is a need for increased numbers of homeopathic practitioners to meet the growing demand for homeopathic medicine. A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that over 50% of the public now routinely use alternative medicine in the United States.

Currently, there are no full time homeopathic medical schools in the North America.  The existence of a full time homeopathic medical school will help to spread the practice of homeopathic medicine and make homeopathic medicine more accessible to the public.

None of the current part time programs in homeopathic medicine in North Americaoffer medical training.  This program will fill a much needed gap so that its graduates can become physicians with the capacity to diagnose.

Many potential homeopathic students inquiring about careers in homeopathic medicine, describe dissatisfaction with the current options for practice, often pursuing careers in other forms of medicine.  Such a program will bring the practice of homeopathy to a higher professional level.

Establishment of such a program will provide dramatically increased opportunities for homeopathic research.  Currently there are no homeopathic research centers in the United States.

There are a growing number of homeopathic practitioners in the United States who have not legal way of practicing homeopathic medicine.  The existence of such a program would to grow the legal practice of homeopathic medicine in the United States.

Many current homeopathic schools provide insufficient hours of training for skilled practice or certification as a homeopathic practitioner. This is particularly true of clinical training.

The History

Currently there are no full time homeopathic programs in North America.  There were about fifteen full time homeopathic medical school at the turn of the 20th century, the last closing its doors by 1920.  These schools were vital in keeping the practice of homeopathic medicine alive during their day.

The world has many successful full time homeopathic medical school.  There are several hundred in India alone and they can be found throughout Europe and  South America.  The existence of full time homeopathic medical schools has been shown to immeasurably help the growth of homeopathic medicine in the countries in which they exist.

Funding for the Program

We are seeking to gather $350,000 over the next three years to accomplish this effort.  In addition, we are seeking an additional $250,000 toward the establishment of a permanent campus and home for this project.  We are seeking funds through individual and corporate donations, individual and corporate sponsorships and  through grants.  In addition, we plan on marketing a number of products that will help us to raise funds.
