Off Site Rotations

Las Fuentes Health Clinic is an offsite rotational site for AMCH Students. Las Fuentes Clinic is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, with the goal of providing medical care to the uninsured people of Guadalupe, Arizona. Over 4,500 visits are made yearly to the clinic. Medical care consists of family medicine, women's health, acupuncture, chiropractic, naturopathic, homeopathic and traditional medicine. An extensive community outreach program provides health education to local community schools, agencies and events. In addition, Las Fuentes serves as a clinical training site for medical residents, medical students, nursing students and medical assistants (www.lasfuentes.org).

Mingus Mountain Academy Externship

Overview
Mingus Mountain Academy is a JCAHO-accredited facility offering treatment and educational services for emotionally and behaviorally at-risk girls. Founded in 1985, the Academy is located on a 120-acre campus at the base of Mingus Mountain in beautiful Prescott Valley, Arizona.

The Academy offers a variety of individual treatment and educational services, including its unique Equestrian Program.

The Academy provides a structured and nurturing environment for at-risk and delinquent youth. Mingus’ highly structured program focuses on instilling positive norms and values. Individual goals are set forth in each student’s treatment plan that strive to maximize intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth. Goals are based on the holistic philosophy that each student will become a positive young adult through exposure to Mingus’ challenging and enriching program.

Clinic Experience
The clinic is a constitutional care clinic and meets Monday (every other), Wednesday (every other) and Friday from 9AM-5PM. Students sign up on a first come first serve basis. Only one student is permitted at the site at a time. Priority will be given to third year students and those who have not yet done the rotation, over students who are in their second year, or those who wish to repeat the rotation.

Future Externship - AIDS Homeopathy Clinic in Tanzania, Africa

Overview
This project will initiate an AIDS clinic in Dar es Salaam Tanzania specifically to treat patients with homoeopathic medicine. The project will liaise with a Tanzanian homoeopath to establish an AIDS clinic. Clinical treatment will be done by Jeremy Sherr. Jeremy Sherr will visit Tanzania on a frequent regular schedule over one year to treat patients as well as to offer expert consultation and teaching. At other times he will be readily available for phone and internet consultations with the local homeopathic practitioner. Homoeopathic knowledge will be shared with clinic personnel and the newly established Tanzanian College of Homoeopathy. This will help to advance homoeopathic understanding and experience in treating AIDS patients both locally and worldwide. Homoeopathy has an established method for treating epidemics that can easily be taught and is an effective and low cost model readily replicated in African city and rural settings.

In addition to providing quality clinical care, this program will also provide a venue for much needed research demonstrating the efficacy of homeopathy in the treatment of AIDS. The clinic will also offer externship rotations to AMCH students who wish to travel overseas as part of their AMCH education.
