Curriculum

The curriculum provides a comprehensive preparation for the professional practice of homeopathic medicine. It is based on a firm foundation of the fundamental principles and philosophy of homeopathic medicine. The program is also innovative and responsive to changes in the clinical environment, health care system and characteristics of the populations to be served. The curriculum is designed to enable students to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet the educational learning objectives of the program. More details.

Instructional Delivery

The Doctor of Homeopathic Medicine Degree Program is a four-year full time program that is campus based. The school operates on a quarter system. All quarters are eleven weeks each.

Integration

The curriculum is integrated among disciplines and among the basic, clinical, social and behavioral sciences and the humanities.

Opportunities for Self Direction in Learning

Opportunities for self-direction in learning are included throughout the curriculum. Electives are available in the last year of the program.

Focus on Clinical Training, Community, Research and Humanism

Clinical training is included in all years of the curriculum and includes opportunities for students to participate in interprofessional teams. Professionalism and humanism are integrated into all aspects of the curriculum. The curriculum is designed to foster both intercollegiate community and the process of becoming a part of the homeopathic profession. Humanism, research and community are the three core values of the program’s curriculum.

First Year

The first year provides a solid grounding in the fundamentals of homeopathic philosophy and medicine. Homeopathic clinical training begins at the beginning of the program consisting in case observation and problem based learning. Basic medical sciences are taught that give the student a strong foundation on which to build their clinical skills. The basic science curriculum studies the normal structure and function of the body.

Second Year

The second year of training introduces the student to case taking and case analysis skills. Homeopathic medicines within the plant kingdom are explored. Basic medical sciences focus on the body’s pathological transitions through disease along with clinical recognition of these processes using physical, clinical and lab diagnostics.

Third Year

The third year introduces case management skills and more complex case taking and case analysis. Homeopathic medicines within the animal kingdom are explored. Clinical sciences are introduced including pediatrics, geriatrics, gynecology, obstetrics, neurology, endocrinology, cardiology, pulmonology, urology, dermatology, psychiatry and immunology.

Fourth Year

The fourth year of the curriculum provides opportunities for elective fields of study. More intensive clinical training occurs as well as supervision. Classes are taught in preparation for setting up a practice. An effort is made to make a smooth transition between training and practice.

Advanced Standing

Students with medical licensure (MD, DO) will be able to place out of the medical portions of the curriculum. Students with homeopathic certification through the CHC, DHANP or ABHt will be able to place out of the homeopathic portion of the curriculum. More details.
