Frequently Asked Questions for the Doctor of Homeopathic Medicine Program

1.  When does your next class start?

Each new class starts in February of each year.

2.  What are the prerequisites to attend this program? 

The required courses are Biology (12 semester credits); Chemistry (12 semester credits); Physics (6 semester credits); Psychology (6 semester credits).  For more general requirements see our catalog and web site (www.amcofh.org/Programs/DH_Prerequisites.html). 

3.  Do you offer any financial aid or payment options?

Financial aid is available through Mountain Credit Union.  We also have some limited work study positions available.  Contact our financial aid office for more details.

4.  What housing options do you offer for students?

We have contracted with Gray Development Group to provide rental housing options for our students.  In addition, we have contracted with a local realtor, Randy Sieg, to help provide home and condominium purchase options

5.  I have previous homeopathic or medical training.  Can I place out of some of the courses?

Definitely.  We accept advanced placement for both prior homeopathic and prior medical training.  The highest standard we use for advanced placement in homeopathy is certification through the Council on Homeopathic Certification ().  We accept advanced placement for medical training if it is at a master�s or doctoral level.  Advanced placement is determined after submitting an advanced placement application.  Please see our website for further details (www.amcofh.org/Programs/appendix-a3.pdf). 

6.   What can I do with my degree after I graduate?

Graduates of this program will be able to practice as a doctor in Arizona after graduation.  Legal practice in other states is complex and depends on the legal climate of a given state. (www.nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org). 

7.   How important is clinical training in the program?

Clinical training is central to the curriculum of this program.  Training begins at the beginning of the curriculum and extends throughout all four years. 

8.   What is the difference between attending a conventional medical school and a homeopathic medical school?

Both conventional medical schools and homeopathic medical schools offer doctoral level medical training.  Conventional medical schools offer training in pharmaceutical and surgical interventions, whereas homeopathic medical schools offer training in homeopathic medicine interventions (www.amcofh.org/Public/What_is_Homeopathy.html).  Homeopathic doctors do not prescribe conventional medications.

9.  Is your school licensed or accredited?

This program has a provisional degree license through the Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education. Our programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Homeopathic Education in North America.

10. What is the difference between a naturopathic medical school and a homeopathic medical school?

A naturopathic medical school offers training in multiple modalities including homeopathic medicine.  The average length of training is approximately 200 hours. A homeopathic medical school offers concentrated study in homeopathic medicine with well over 2000 hours (www.amcofh.org/Public/What_is_Homeopathy.html). 

11.  Do you accept international exchange students?

We do not accept international exchange students at this time.  We do not have the capacity to grant student visas currently.

12.  Is it possible to complete the program more slowly than the usual four years?  Can I attend part time?

Yes.  It is possible to complete the program within six years, instead of the usual four.
