Overview
This
project is an initial partnership of two leading
alternative healthcare organizations in the State of
Arizona:
This
library will be located in Phoenix Arizona and open to
the public. It is planned to be the largest CAM library
in the nation. The library would be scheduled to open in
a limited form in September 2009 with an eventual
expansion to its permanent home in September 2011.
The
library will encompass five separate modalities:
Learn more about these modalities from these two
documents from National Library of Traditional
Medicine
Each
modality will encompass two collections: a general
collection and a research collection.
In
addition to the collections, the following elements of
the project will also be included:
Mission
and Goals
The
mission
of this library is to create the highest quality and
largest traditional medicine library in the country,
housing collections for comprehensive and complete
energetic systems of traditional medicine as
distinguished by culture or modality.
The
goals
of this library are
1. Increased public awareness of traditional
medicine.
2. Create a legacy for the future of
traditional medicine.
3. Form a research library for local and
national traditional
medicine students.
4. Promotion of traditional medicine modalities
integrating with
western medicine.
Description
This
project is dedicated to building a research library and
resource center that would assist student education,
support research and provide aid to the public seeking
education and patient information in CAM modalities such
as Oriental Medicine, Homeopathy and Herbal Medicine.
The
creation of this center would support the transfer and
creation of knowledge whereby individual lives and
communities would be improved and healed. Oriental
Medicine, Homeopathy and other modalities historically
have contributed to and managed most illnesses.
Returning to these sources and combining them with
modern technology where appropriate can address many of
our societal health concerns, often with less cost and
complications.
Since
the CAM research library is located in the heart of
Phoenixs Biotech and Genomic centers, this library will
promote education and interest in the cross-cultural
development of the ancient healing modalities and modern
technology to foster new cures for disease, improve
methods of healing and lifestyles, and bridge the gap
between mind/spirit and work/technology.
Collections are intended to support the teaching,
learning and research at the Phoenix Institute of Herbal
Medicine & Acupuncture, College & Clinic, and the
American Medical College of Homeopathy. In addition, the
research library will support the Southwest College of
Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe as well as other colleges
of Oriental medicine in the state, massage & bodywork
programs, and the western medical professional training
at Midwest University, Arizona State University and
other nursing and health programs at community colleges
throughout the state.
In
addition, the library will support physicians, nurses,
and other health practitioners at surrounding hospitals,
clinics and companies. And most importantly, members of
the general public will be able to find support and
solace in the information generated by the library
resources. And finally, the Center will serve as a
meeting place for all stakeholders and levels in the
healing paradigm, to converse, compare notes, and find
solutions.
The
level of the collections will seek to achieve Research
Level designation as specified in the Guidelines for
Collection Development of the American Library
Association. |
